X-8 loaded onto the catapult, Mike preparing for launch

Zac, Mike and Amy went down to Rockingham Salt Flats last week to attempt the maiden flight of our new X-8 plane, with our new catapult launching system.
All systems were ready to go and the plane was ready to launch, Zac powered up the throttle, and… unfortunately the thrust from the propeller pushed the plane out of the catapult cradle before the catapult was released and the plane fell onto the catapult, causing minor damage to the propeller and motor. This was disappointing for the team, but on the plus side the X-8 and catapult were looking great!
Whilst we were down there we also flew the Skywalker and Bixler in autonomous mode and tested out some new radio transmitters. Sam from the PerthUAV team also came down and we had a good chat about some different ideas. And thanks to Amy for getting some great pics!
After repairing the X-8 and perfecting our launch procedures we’ll be ready for take 2 – stay tuned!
